2012 SCHJA Benefit Week Highlights

The final day of the SCHJA Benefit Horse Show featured a lovely brunch to benefit KershawHealth.  The brunch ran alongside the feature event, the $5,000 NAL/WIHS Children’s/Adult Jumper Classic.

Hunter Highlights
Bonham Oval
Kaitlin Porath repeated her winning ways again this week by winning the Amateur Owner Hunter Championship as well as the $1,500 Junior/Amateur Owner Hunter Classic for the second week in a row aboard O.C. Kaitlin is trained by Daniel and Cathy Geitner and O.C. is owned by Kaitlin and her family’s Meadow Hill Stables. 

Elizabeth Butterworth rode Noel Fauntleroy’s horses Tenerife and Babette to the Champion and Reserve Champion respectively in the Junior Hunter Division under the guidance of Ron Danta and Danny Robertshaw.

Bruce and Amy Christison trained Drew Coster aboard Kathryn Coster’s Goodman and Katie Laudun aboard her horse Elijah to the Champion and Reserve Champion respectively in the Adult Amateur Hunter 18-35 Division.

The Adult Amateur 36+ Championship was awarded to Rebel’s Last Yell and owned/rider Kathleen Gurley.

Cool Music and owner/rider Megan Rosenthal were Champion in the Children’s Hunter 14 and Under and Rivaldi owned by Heather Condor and ridden by Tori Bilas was the Children’s Hunter 15-17 Champion.

The $1,000 NAL/WIHS Adult Amateur Hunter Classic was won by Saint Jimmy and owner/rider Elizabeth Tarumianz and the $1,000 NAL/WIHS Children’s Hunter Classic was won by French Twist and owner/rider Annie Simpson.

The Taylor Harris Insurance Services Children’s Medal was won by Elizabeth McKim and the WIHS Hunter Phase was won by Claire Connaghan.

Ring 2
Carly Hoft and Megan D’Amico’s pony Wonderwall won Small/Medium Pony Hunter Championship and Woodlands Summer Rain and owner/rider Safriet Gentry captured the Green Pony Hunter Championship.

For the second week in a row the Large Pony Hunter Championship went to Billabong and owner/rider Hannah Siegel.

Pre-Children’s Hunter Champion was Divine with owner/rider Meredith Mateo and the Pre-Children’s Equitation Champion was Mary Edmiston.

 The Pre-Adult Hunter Championship went to Rigo Bacardi with owner/rider Virginia Barnette and the Pre-Adult Equitation Champion was Samantha Franklin.

Children’s Hunter Pony Champion was earned by Annie Walters aboard Madison Meek’s Arkady.

For the second week in a row the Short Stirrup Hunter Championship was awarded to In A Dream owned by Meadow Hill Stables and ridden by Kameryn Fincher, Kameryn also won the Short Stirrup Equitation Championship yesterday.

Jumper Highlights
La Bella Mossa and owner/rider Colleen McDevitt were the Champions in the Low Children’s Jumper and Relevance and owner/rider Alexandra Duffy were Champions in the Low Adult Jumper, both champions were trained by Lilly DeSousa.

El Caro owned by Julia Levine was ridden to the Children’s Jumper Championship by Victoria Hoft. For the second week in a row, Elizabeth Porath was champion in the Adult Jumper aboard Madrid D’Auvray owned by Elizabeth and her family’s Meadow Hill Stables and Chantilly was Champion in Pony Jumpers with owner/rider Kathleen Fritz.

The winner of the $5,000 NAL/WIHS Children’s/Adult Jumper Classic was Leroy Brown 17 owned and ridden by Kelly Maloney and trained by Jack Towell.

A beautiful day at the SCHJA Benefit Horse Show wrapped up with an Exhibitor’s party during the $2,500 National Hunter Derby.

Hunter Highlights
Bonham Oval
Junior Hunters began showing today with Noel Fauntleroy’s Babette and rider Elizabeth Butterworth and Klondike owned and ridden by Nicole Fose each winning an over fences class.  In the Amateur Owner Hunters Kaitlin Porath won both over fences classes aboard her and her family’s Meadow Hill Stables’ O.C.

In the Children’s Hunters 14 and Under Too Cool and owner/rider Addison Byrd and Cool Music and owner/rider Megan Rosenthal each won an over fences class.  The Children’s Hunter 15-17 was dominated by Heather Condor’s Rivaldi with rider Annie Walters winning both over fences classes.

 In the Adult Amateur Hunter 36+ both over fences classes were won by Rebel’s Last Yell and owner/rider Kathleen Gurley.  The Adult Amateur Hunter 18-35 is a close race with Elijah and owner/rider Katie Laudun and Saint Jimmy owned by Sabrinia Giancroce and ridden by Elizabeth Tarumianz each taking a first and second in the over fences.

The SCHJA Governor’s Cup was won by Annie Simpson.

The $2,500 National Hunter Derby was won by Liza Boyd aboard Claudia White’s Timing.  Second place honors went to Claire Connaghan aboard Michael Connaghan’s Louie.  Third place was Nicole Fose and her horse Klondike with fourth place going to Bruce Christison and Willoughby Stables’ Coconut Creek.  Rounding out the top five was Liza Boyd aboard Marilla Van Beuren’s Marksmann.

Ring 2
Cecilia D’Amore won the WIHS Pony Equitation Classic and the Equisport USEF Pony Medal was won by Carly Hoft.

The Small/Medium Pony Hunter began today with Wonderwall owned by Megan D’Amico and ridden by Carly Hoft winning both over fences classes.

In the Large Pony Hunter Billabong and owner/rider Hannah Siegel and Tantallon Co-Captain and owner/rider Cecilia D’Amore each won an over fences class.

In the Green Pony Hunter Woodland’s Summer Rain owned and ridden by Gentry Safriet and Katydid Gourment owned by Katrina H Becker and ridden by Emily Anne Banister each won an over fences class.

Bella owned and ridden by Meredith Mateo and Hollywood owned and ridden by Eliza Fauntleroy each won an over fences class in the Pre-Children’s Hunter.

In the Pre-Adult Hunter Capitol Image owned by Emily Fox and ridden by Katrina Ruotsalo and International Affair owned and ridden by Samantha Franklin each claimed the top prize in an over fences class.

Annie Walters rode Madison Meek’s Arkady to blue ribbons in both over fences classes of the Children’s Hunter Pony.

The Short Stirrup Equitation Champion was Kameryn Fincher.

Jumper Highlights
Both classes of the Low Children’s Jumper were won by La Bella Mossa owned and ridden by Colleen McDevitt.

In the Low Adult Jumper Relevance and owner/rider Alexandra Duffy won the Table II.2.b class and Patronus and owner/rider Laura Gerbec won the Table II.2.c class.

Adele Marchant aboard Leo Hindery Jr’s Subliem won the Table II.2.b class of Children’s Jumper with Victoria Hoft aboard Julia Levine’s El Caro winning the Table II.2.c class.

In the Adult Jumper Elizabeth Porath rode her and her family’s Meadow Hill Stables’ Madrid D’Auvray to a win in the Table II.2.b class and Kelly Maloney and her horse Leroy Brown 17 won the Table II.2.c class.

The winner of the Table II.2.b class of Pony Jumpers was Elizabeth Butterworth aboard Gail Visconsi’s Little Lulu and Kathleen Fritz and her pony Chantilly won the Table II.2.c class.

The WIHS Jumper Phase was won by Adele Marchant.

More seasonable weather today at the SCHJA Benefit Horse Show, full day of showing under blue skies.

Hunter Highlights
Bonham Oval
Caroline Willard had a big morning winning the Combined Pre-Green Hunter 3’ & 3’3” Championship aboard Addison Byrd’s Too Cool.  Caroline also won the Championship in Performance Hunter 3’ aboard Fernando Cardenas’ Reigning Parfait for the second week in a row.  Too Cool was also Champion later in the day in the Modified Children’s/Adult Hunter with owner Addison Byrd.

Performance Hunter 3’3” Champion was Liza Boyd and Marksmann owned by Marilla Van Beuren, with Liza winning three of the four over fences classes.

The NCHJA Children’s Equitation was won by Annie Simpson and the EJ Haun Memorial Medal was won by Claire Connaghan.

Ring 2
Bruce Christison and Virginia Barnette’s Rigo Bacardi received the Championship for Hopeful Hunter and Jennifer Van Huesen aboard Troy Van Heusen’s Premiere were Champion in Baby Green Hunter.

The Kershaw County Hunter Champion was Keri Sutherland aboard Melissa Davis’ Speak Softly. 

The Ariat Adult Medal was won by Aley Russell and the Bryan Jones Medal was won by Kathleen Gurley.

The Schooling Pony Championship went to Annie Walters aboard Madison Meek’s Arkady.


Jumper Highlights
Patronus and owner/rider Laura Gerbec were the 1.00 Meter Jumper Champion and the 1.10 Meter Jumper Champion was Sidney Gerken’s Shades of Bay with rider Keri Sutherland aboard.

1.20 Meter Jumper Championship went to the Greystone Sales owned Greystone’s Tongue Twister with Dale Wright riding.

Another chilly morning in Camden gave way to a beautiful afternoon at the SCHJA Benefit Horse Show.

Hunter Highlights
Bonham Oval
Daniel Geitner and Thomas Visconsi’s Signal Hill claimed the Championship in the 1st Year Green Working Hunter.  Champion in the Performance Hunter 3’6”went to Coconut Creek owned by Willoughby Stables and ridden by Bruce Christison.

First Dance owned by Sarah Orberson and ridden by Liza Boyd and Too Cool owned by Addison Byrd and ridden by Caroline Willard each won an over fences class on the first day of showing for the Combined Pre-Green Hunter 3’ & 3’3”.

Performance Hunter 3’3” also began today with Wiroko owned by Katrina Ruotsalo and ridden by Cathy Inch and Marksmann owned by Marilla Van Beuren and ridden by Liza Boyd each winning an over fences class.

Ring 2
Showing started today in Ring 2 and the blue ribbon winners in the Hopeful Hunter were Bruce Christison aboard Virginia Barnette’s Rigo Bacardi and Dale Wright aboard Adagio owned by Leslie Bridges.

Baby Green Hunter‘s top honors were split between Jennifer Van Heusen aboard Troy Van Heusen’s Premier and Bruce Christison aboard Mary Cheatham’s Florin.

In the Kershaw County Hunter Speak Softly Owned by Melissa Davis and ridden by Keri Sutherland and Wiroko and owner/rider Katrinia Ruotsalo each won an over fences class.


Jumper Highlights

The final class of the 0.95 Meter Jumper was won by Cover Girl and owner/rider Farren Paton with Championship honors in the 0.95 Meter Jumper going to William owned by Betsey Emerson and ridden by Charles Emerson.

There were two 1.00 Meter Jumper classes held today with Beach Cruiser and owner/rider Skye Deitelbaum and Querreque owned by Aley Russell and ridden by Elizabeth Tarumianz each winning a class.

The 1.10 Meter Jumper was won by Brittany Knox and her horse Murano and the 1.20 Meter Jumper was won by Graystone Sales’ Greystone’s Tongue Twister and Dale Wright.

The first day of the SCHJA Benefit Horse Show was a jumper heavy day with the majority of the action taking place in the Jumper Ring.

Hunter Highlights
Daniel Geitner and Thomas Visconsi’s Signal Hill took top honors in both over fences classes in the1st Year Green Working Hunter, with Liza Boyd and Claudia White’s Timing winning the Under Saddle.

Jumper Highlights
Clousseau and owner/rider Sherri Terhaar won the first class of 0.95 Meter Jumper and Charles Emerson won the second class of 0.95 Meter Jumper aboard Betsey Emerson’s William.  Daniel Geitner won the1.00 Meter Jumper aboard Brittany Knox’s Murano as well as the1.10 Meter Jumper aboard Aley Russell’s Querreque.
The 1.20 Meter Jumper class was won by Dale Wright aboard the Greystone Sales owned Greystone’s Tongue Twister.

A chilly morning transitioned into a beautiful, sunny afternoon for the final day of showing at the Camden Spring Classic.

Hunter Highlights
Bonham Oval
O.C. ridden by Kaitlin Porath and owned by Kaitlin and her family’s Meadow Hill Stables won the Amateur Owner Hunter Championship as well as the $1,500 Junior/Amateur Owner Hunter Classic.

James Bond and owner/rider Amanda Young won both over fence classes today in the Junior Hunters, clinching the Junior Hunter Championship.  

Mike Rosser’s Insbrook and rider Holly King also won both of their over fence classes today in the Adult Amateur Hunter 18-35 on their way to earning the Championship.

Sally Kay rode Joann Loheac’s Southern Saluut to the Adult Amateur 36+ Championship.

Grace Howard and her horse Bethel’s Peri received the Championship honors in the Children’s Hunter 14 and Under, while Madison Rex and her horse Beaujolais captured the Children’s Hunter 15-17 Championship.

Cool Music and owner/rider Megan Rosenthal were the winners of the $1,000 NAL/WIHS Adult Amateur/Children’s Hunter Classic.

The Taylor Harris Insurance Services Children’s Medal was won by Jillian Moezzi.

Top honors in the Leadline went to Abbygail Gordon on her sister Libbie’s pony, Louis Viutton.

Libbie Gordon and her pony Louis Viutton won the Small/Medium Pony Hunter Championship as well as the $1,000 Pony Hunter Classic. 

Green Pony Hunter Champion was awarded to Madison Matthews and her pony Otteridge Swanson, while the Large Pony Hunter Championship went to Billabong and owner/rider Hannah Siegel.

Pre-Children’s Hunter Champion was Addison Byrd and her horse Too Cool, while the Pre-Adult Hunter Championship went to Fortune’s Turn and owner/rider Carolyn Cheshire.

Children’s Hunter Pony Champion was earned by Allie Jo Brown and her pony Templeton.

The Short Stirrup Hunter Championship was awarded to In A Dream owned by Meadow Hill Stables and ridden by Kameryn Fincher and the Short Stirrup Equitation Championship was won by Lindsey Rigney.

Jumper Highlights
Rebecca Warth and Sovan Hill Enterprises’ Tornado Alley were the Champions in the Low Children’s/Adult Jumper.

Elizabeth Porath was champion in the Children’s/Adult Jumper aboard Madrid D’Auvray owned by Elizabeth and her family’s Meadow Hill Stables.

Chantilly was Champion in Pony Jumpers with owner/rider Kathleen Fritz.

After a night of heavy rains, Mother Nature was kind to us and cleared things in time for our 9am start.

Junior Hunters, Amateur Owner Hunters, Children’s Hunters and Adult Amateurs started showing today and will complete their divisions tomorrow.

The SCHJA Governor’s Cup was won by Hannah Siegel.

The $20,000 USHJA International Hunter Challenge Derby was won by Liza Boyd aboard Brunello owned by Boyd and Janet Peterson.  Liza also placed second aboard Quatrain owned by Finally Farm and Janet Peterson.  Third place honors went to Jennifer Alfano aboard Helen Lenahan’s Miss Lucy and Jennifer also placed fourth with SBS Farms Inc’s Jersey Boy.  Rounding out the top five was Daniel Geitner and Living Color owned by Robin Hughes.

Ring 2
Small/Medium Pony Hunter, Large Pony Hunter, Green Pony Hunter, Pre-Children’s Hunter, Pre-Adult Hunter, Children’s Hunter Pony and Short Stirrup Hunter began showing today and will complete their divisions tomorrow.

Jumper Highlights
Rebecca Warth and Sovan Hill Enterprises’ Tornado Alley and Hannah Siegel and Derek Petersen’s Acts each won a class of Low Children’s/Adult Jumper.

Blue Me Away owned and ridden by Morgan Avery and Madrid D’Auvray owned by Elizabeth Porath and Meadow Hill Stables and ridden by Elizabeth Porath each won a class of Children’s/Adult Jumper.

The inclement weather posed a threat today, but with only one short hold, the Camden Spring Classic was able to complete the day as scheduled.

Bonham Oval
Daniel Geitner won the Championship in the 3’ Pre-Green Hunter aboard Robin Hughes’ Deliberate and Liza Boyd was the Champion in the 3’3” Pre-Green Hunter aboard Joann Loheac’s Chestnut Avenue.  The Pre-Green Hunter Classic was won by Liza Boyd and Marilla Van Beuren’s Marksman.
Caroline Willard rode Fernando Cardenas’ Reigning Parfait to the Championship in Performance Hunter 3’ and Joy Janouskovec and Nancy Ross Merritt’s Walk The Line were Champion in the Performance Hunter 3’3”.

The Modified Children’s/Adult Hunter Championship was won by Elizabeth McKim and her horse III Wishes and the Modified Junior/Amateur Championship went to James Bond and owner/rider Amanda Young.

Ring 2
Elena Portu and Carolyn Cheshire’s Fortune’s Turn received the Championship for Hopeful Hunter and Bruce Christison and Mary Cheatham’s Florin were Champion in Baby Green Hunter.  The Schooling Pony Championship went to Libbie Gordon and her pony Louis Viutton.

Jumper Highlights
Kathleen Fritz and Kirk Kamish’s Cinnamon Twist was the 1.00 Meter Jumper Champion and the 1.10 Meter Jumper Championship was won by Cecelia Erwin aboard her horse Mystery Machine.

The second day of showing at the Camden Spring Classic started out with a misty morning and turned into another blue sky day.  
Hunter Highlights
Bonham Oval
Jennifer Alfano and Liza Boyd continued their winning streaks in the Working Hunters. Jennifer rode Karen McDonald’s Rapunzel to the win in both over fences today and was Champion in the 1st Year Green Working Hunter and Liza won both over fences to clinch the Championship in the combined 2nd Year Green/High Performance Working Hunter with Erin McGuire’s Casallo. 

Liza continued her winning ways in the 3’3” Pre-Green Hunters winning both over fences and the under saddle aboard Joann Loheac’s Chestnut Ave and in the 3’ Pre-Green Hunters winning both over fences classes with Sarah Orberson’s First Dance.

3’3” Performance Hunter started today with Joy Janouskovec and Nancy Ross Merritt’s Walk The Line and Keith Hastings and Coleman Murray’s Cape Town each winning an over fences class.

Ring 2
Showing began today for Ring 2: Elena Portu and Carolyn Cheshire’s Fortune’s Turn won both over fences and the under saddle in Hopeful Hunter and Bruce Christison and Mary Cheatham’s Florin won both over fences classes in Baby Green Hunter.

Jumper Highlights
April Aryan and Tuff Competition Farm’s Nevis were Champion in the 0.95 Meter Jumper after winning both classes yesterday and finishing second today to Chantilly and owner/rider Katheen Fritz.
Grand Slam owned and ridden by Sarah Orberson and Kathleen Fritz with Kirk Kamish’s Cinnamon Twist each won a 1.00 Meter Jumper and the 1.10 Meter Jumper was won by Cecelia Erwin aboard her horse Mystery Machine.

It was a beautiful blue sky day for the first day of the Camden Spring Classic.  Showing started today and will continue through Saturday, with no showing on Sunday to allow exhibitors and staff to enjoy the Easter Holiday with their family and friends.

The ladies dominated in the working hunter divisions; Jennifer Alfano won both over fences and the under saddle in the 1st Year Green Working Hunter aboard Rapunzel owned by Karen MacDonald and Liza Boyd won both over fences and the under saddle in the combined 2nd Year Green/High Performance Working Hunter aboard Casallo owned by Erin McGuire.

Jumper Highlights
April Aryan won both 0.95 Meter Jumper classes on Tuff Competition Farm’s Nevis and Erin McGuire and her horse Cascadini won both the 1.00 Meter and 1.10 Meter Jumper classes.

The 1.20 Meter Jumper class was won by Dale Wright aboard the Greystone Sales owned Greystone’s Tongue Twister.
