2009 Aiken Spring Classic Masters Week Highlights |

The 5th day of the Aiken Spring Classic featured the $25,000 Aiken Spring Classic Grand Prix sponsored by Progressive Show Jumping with a field of 28 competing over the Jamie Alder designed course. There was a luncheon and an auction to benefit the charity, Women Beyond Cancer, during the Grand Prix in the Aiken Classic Club. The pre-Grand Prix festivities included a sidesaddle demonstration ride by Aiken Ladies Aside, as well the $500 Grooms Class sponsored by William Howard & Kim Dorfman. The Grooms Class was won by Erik Eveleth with Showcase Limited’s Tasty with the second place going to Jason Dewitt with Pinetree Ponies’s Tusker.
Highlights from the Hunter Rings
The Pony Hunters finished out their divisions today with the Small Pony Hunter Championship being awarded to Hi Lite and owner/rider Madison Maners. The Medium Pony Hunter Champion went to Promise and Lucille Oken. The Pony Hunter Classic sponsored by Sandra Thomas was won by Lands End Mad Hatter owned by Alise Oken and ridden by her sister Lucille Oken. The Palmetto Tractor and Trailer sponsored Children’s Hunter Pony Championship was awarded to Dream Catcher owned by Robin Hughes and ridden by Kathryn Eudy.
Lucille Oken continued her winning streak in the Large Junior Hunter 15 & Under section with Southern Style winning both Champion for the division and the Junior Hunter Classic out of a field of 27, with Jamie Steinhaus and North C coming in a close second. The Championship in the Amateur Owner Hunter 3’3” went to Manhattan and Emily Jones.
The Children’s Hunter Horse 14 & Under Champion was Alexa Boggio aboard Sarah Ward’s Bling Bling and the Champion award in the Children’s Hunter Horse 15-17 went to Tango with owner/rider Melanie Caraway. The Children’s Hunter 15-17 Classic was won by Caitee Moore riding Caroline Brennan’s Art Nouveau and the Children’s 14 & Under Hunter Classic winner was Grace Howard and Kimberly Howard’s CR Galileo.
The Pre-Children’s Hunter Champion was Montana ridden by Savannah Mowery and owned by Kathryn Mulkey and the Champion in Short Stirrup Hunter was Northern Magic ridden by Katie Shield owned by Alise Oken.
Highlights from the Jumper Rings
The $25,000 Aiken Spring Classic Grand Prix sponsored by Progressive Show Jumping was won by Daniel Geitner aboard Kyle Register’s Trading Places. Daniel had 3 of the 9 horses to return in the jump off and was able to clear the course aboard Trading Places just slightly ahead of the second place finisher, Angel Karolyi aboard McLain Ward’s Galant. The winner of the $5,000 NAL-WIHS Children’s/Adult Jumper Classic was She Can Dance owned by Muny Sunk Stables and ridden by Sarah Owen and the winner of the $5,000 Junior/Amateur Jumper Classic was Ashley Ann McGehee riding Redfield Farm’s Tulip.

The 4th day of the Aiken Spring Classic was packed full of special events. The USHJA International Hunter Challenge Derby Classic sponsored by the ASG Software Solutions/USHJA presented by Dietrich Insurance and featuring Walsh Harness & Saddlery ran today on the Derby field and the Young Jumper Championship sponsored by Aiken Land Conservancy went today on the Grand Prix Field. There was a Hunter Derby Cocktail party in the Aiken Spring Classic Club which was followed by the Child Advocacy Center BBQ Gala which is a fundraiser for abused children.
Highlights from the Hunter Rings
The winner in the USHJA International Hunter Challenge Derby Classic was Elizabeth Boyd on Roger Smith’s Castello and the second place finish went to Chase Boggio aboard his horse Graphiq. The Amateur Owner Hunter Classic winner was Springsteen with owner/rider Kimberley Quinn, who also took second place to her second entry, Gershwin.
In the Equitation classes today the winner of the USEF Pony Medal was Gabriella Gianturco, the WIHS Jumper Phase winner was Selby Merritt, the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search was won by Chase Boggio, and the overall winner of the WIHS was Molly Braswell.
Highlights from the Jumper Rings
The Young Jumper 5 year old class was won by Ezmerelda owned and ridden by Hayden Warmington and the Young Jumper 6 year old class was won by Zed ridden by Trina Green and owned by Dustin Ball and the winner of the Young Jumper 7/8 year old class was Boysterous ridden by Holly Shepherd for owner Danielle Grice. Low Junior Amateur Jumpers had a tie for Champion between Bright Creek’s Coco owned by Bright Creek LLC and ridden by Sherra Harrison and Annismindes owned by Still Creek Farm and ridden by Sara Ketcham.

The 3rd day of the Aiken Spring Classic wrapped up with the $5,000 Welcome Stake sponsored by 302 Polo and Barb & Tom Uskup and a Low Country Boil sponsored by Sierra Run, LLC and Jen Miller. The afternoon was a definite success with a full Classic Club tent enjoying the food prepared by Aiken’s JC’s Seafood while watching a field of 26 competitors compete over the Jamie Alder designed course. The $5,000 Welcome Stake was won in an exciting finish by the last entry to compete in the jump off, Angel Karolyi aboard Abigail Walker’s entry James T Kirk.
Highlights from the Hunter Rings
The Amateur Owner Hunter 18-35 started today and is anyone’s game with Mary Guynn on Mio and Lindsey Chestnut on Levantos each winning an over fences class. The Amateur Owner Hunter 35+ was dominated by Caroline Clark Morrison winning both over fences classes, one on Scout and one on Milan.
Katarina owned by Alexis Stevenson and ridden by Harold Chopping was Champion in the Hopeful Hunter and Limit Hunter Champion went to Glassy Mountain Enterprise’s True North ridden by Katie Brown-Maxwell. The Champion in the Aiken County Hunter, sponsored by Hutson-Etherredge Companies and Sarah Vogus, was Absolute Charm and owner/rider Amy Zettler. There was a tie for Champion in Schooling Pony with Echo owned and ridden by Chloie Medford and Sportspage owned and ridden by Elizabeth Butterworth sharing the tri-color honors.
In the Equitation classes today, Amateur Equitation Champion was Lindsay Harroff, Catherine Stumburg was Champion in the Adult 18-35 Equitation, and Amy Nolan won the Adult 36+ Equitation Championship.
The Ariat Adult Medal was won by Sandy Randolph and the WIHS Hunter Phase was won by Molly Braswell. Mahala Rummell had a great day winning both the E J Haun Memorial Medal and the Taylor Harris National Medal. Emily Jones took first place in the Bryan Jones Medal and Gabriella Gianturco won the WIHS Pony Classic.
Highlights from the Jumper Rings
The Meter .90 jumper was won by Kodak Moment ridden by Elizabeth Connor and owned by Marion Connor. The top prize in the Meter 1.00 went to Kelly Kocher on Kocher Tack Shop’s Jasmine and Sherry Taylor’s Slow Time won the Meter 1.10 jumpers with Clayton Russell in the irons.
The Meter 1.20 jumper was won by Alysa Aarup aboard Terry Russell’s Dirty Harry and the Meter 1.30 winner was Captain Jack owned by Pablo Barrios and ridden by Jack Hardin Towell. The winner of the Meter 1.35 jumper was won by Harold Chopping aboard John Wagstaff’s Corland .
Sara Ketcham aboard Still Creek Farm’s Annismindes Caesar was the winner of today’s Low Junior/Amateur Jumper table II 2.c class. The High Junior/Amateur Jumper table II 2.c class was won by Zerneborg and owner/rider Ellie Bernstein.

It was another beautiful day in Aiken, SC for the second day of the 2009 Aiken Spring Classic! The Oak Manor Saddlery Wine and Cheese party began at 4pm and immediately had a large crowd. Tracey and Jim at Oak Manor appreciate everyone stopping by to peruse their shop and are looking forward to another wine and cheese party next Thursday.
Highlights from the Hunter Rings
Terry Brown and Sandy Gregory’s Formality continued their winning streak taking the Championship in the 1st Year Green Working Hunters. The 2nd Year Green Working Hunters finished out their division today with Championship going to Quintin owned by Alise Oken and ridden by Stephen Heinecke.
The Regular Conformation and Working Hunter Divisions were completed today with Danny Robertshaw and Lions Paw winning the Championship in the Conformation and Liza Towell Boyd on Caroline Clark Morrison’s Scout honored as Champion in the Working.
The second day of the Baby Green Hunters sponsored by Lynn Carter and The Funny Farm in loving memory of E Edward Houghton ended with Champion honors awarded to Harry Potter owned by Robin Hughes and ridden by Daniel Geitner.
The Pre-Green Hunter Divisions ran today with the 3’ section Championship being captured by Sunday Morning owned b y Neill Sites and ridden by Liza Towell Boyd and the 3’3” section Championship awarded to James Fisher’s La Canto with rider Terry Brown. The 3’ Pre-Green Hunter Classic was also won by rider Terry Brown who rode Lizabeth Fisher’s Playoff to the top prize.
Highlights from the Jumper Rings
The Meter .90 jumper was won by Cazenova ridden by Luke Tokaruk and owned by Michael Tokaruk. The Meter 1.00 jumper was won by Hardin Towell on Victoria Grauer’s Omnistor Ebert and Scandal won the Meter 1.10 jumpers with owner Olivia Hostetter in the irons. The Meter 1.20 jumper was won by Sara Ketcham aboard Still Creek Farm’s Annismindes Caesar and the Meter 1.30 jumper’s top prize was claimed by Daniel Geitner riding Rex Marquette’s Fargo. The winner of the Meter 1.35 jumper was Anamika owned and ridden by Dasgupta Bhaskar.

The first day of the 2009 Aiken Spring Classic has been great! Our first exhibitor’s party is underway and the show rings are drawing to a close.
Highlights from the Hunter Rings
Terry Brown and Sandy Gregory’s Formality swept the first day of the 1st Year Green Working Hunters and it was a clean sweep as well in the first day of the 2nd Year Green Working Hunters for Stephen Heinecke and Alise Oken’s Quintin.
The Regular Conformation and Working Hunter Divisions are up for grabs with Danny Robertshaw and Lions Paw leading the way in the Conformation and Daniel Geitner on Frederick Schofield’s Acorino and Liza Towell Boyd on Caroline Clark Morrison’s Scout in a tight race in the Working.
